about me
I journey alongside you to offer unique, person-centred understandings so that you can overcome the post and live in the present. My unique professional contribution is decades of experience, compassion, wisdom, perseverance and positivity. My passion undergirding my professional expertise is the belief that healing yourself and healing the world go hand in hand, thus I also promote different kinds of nature therapy and wilderness encounters to re-wild yourself and the world around you.
Professional experience
I trained at the University of Cape Town and qualified with a Social World Honors Degree and a Masters in Psychology. The research-practitioner approach to my Master’s degree launched the well-researched USA Children of Divorce Intervention Program into South Africa. Owing to the success of the post-divorce adjustment program for children it was replicated with Psychologists in Education Support Clinics in Cape Town and was the topic of many regional and national workshops, magazine, and newspaper articles and even a Children’s TV documentary. As a Psychologist I like to journey alongside adults, teens, and children, helping them build better relationships with themselves and others to live their greatness. More specifically I support adults dealing with divorce, loss and bereavement, parents developing advanced skills, couples learning to love the one they are with, and I enjoy empowering many people resolving the challenges of childhood trauma, depression, and addiction. I understand the journey of cancer patients and their families, as well as amputees rehabilitating back into life after the trauma of losing an irreplaceable limb. Two amputees successfully became para-Olympians – one as a swimmer and the other as the vice- captain of the UK sitting-volleyball team. In my early profession I worked with teens in residential care, and more recently with youngsters who are self-harming and suicidal. I enjoy business and executive coaching enabling career change and development through building a mindset for success, strategies for continuous high performance that is balanced with good health and energy, and branding and marketing for those pioneering their own businesses. My greatest passion is taking people into wilderness places to gain life-changing personal and professional insights whilst observing wild animals with social behaviour, swimming with free, ocean-moving dolphins and walking and talking with tribal people. I believe that in this time of climate change good mental health and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. These wilderness encounters are geared towards sports teams seeking mental preparation, business executives who want to build an organizational culture of shared leadership, veterans recovering from PTSD, rehabilitated addicts seeking a new way of feeling pleasure again and re-negotiating re-entering their families and communities, as well as anybody wanting to grow their emotional and ecological intelligence. I was privileged to do mental preparation African Bush style with Jake White, the coach of the 2007 Springbok rugby team, and although we ran out of time for a more comprehensive adventure, they won the World Cup that year.
